Résumé

This page is waaay out of date. I will update it at some point. Meanwhile, visit my résumé for an idea of what I've been up to in the last four years or so.

Production

  • Site production: ColumbusNow (now Weekender+) — I served as editor of Dispatch Interactive's city-guide site
  • Video editing: Boxing package for Dateline: Cheshire special report (Dispatch.com) — Worked with Dispatch photographer Doral Chenoweth to produce several video packages, including this one, to accompany a story on American Electric Power's buyout of the town of Cheshire, Ohio. (QuickTime required)
  • Continuing special section: Crime and safety (NOLA.com) — I developed and maintained this popular section on NOLA.com

Reporting

  • Photography: President's visit (NOLA.com) — President Bush pitched his tax cut plan to New Orleans-area residents in April 2001. The appearance was part of an attempt to secure the votes of centrist Louisiana senators John Breaux and Mary Landrieu.

Design and programming

  • Photo gallery template (Dispatch Interactive) — Using image cataloging software and PHP, I developed a complete system for publishing photo galleries across all Dispatch Interactive sites. The photos and captions were edited and ordered using the shareware iView software. A gallery could be published to the server with two clicks. The server-side programming allowed photo galleries to be published using multiple templates, which could be changed at any time without republishing the galleries. The system also allowed for a scrolling thumbnail view as an alternative to the basic "previous/next" navigation.
  • Zoned newsletters: NOLA Bulletin (NOLA.com) — This is an example of the daily, zoned e-mail newsletters I developed. The system automatically culls news and events from The Times-Picayune's six zoned editions and creates these newsletter pages on the fly. They are sent to thousands of subscribers every morning.

Television

  • On-air experience: Morning cut-in (KOMU-TV, Columbia/Jefferson City, Mo.) — Here is a sample of the morning news briefs I anchored at KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate for central Missouri. This is from April 17, 1997. Forgive the swooshy hair. (QuickTime required)

Silly stuff

  • A cult classic: King Cake BabyDance (NOLA.com) — OK, it's a New Orleans thing. In the weeks leading up to Mardi Gras, we bake these cakes; hidden inside each is a small plastic baby. Tradition holds that whoever gets the baby has to buy the next king cake. Well, I decided to make them dance, a la Hamsterdance.com.
