The ‘Berg burns
The Heidelberg restaurant, a Columbia, Mo., institution and a gathering place for generations of Missouri journalism students, burned to the ground Monday morning.
Prof. Jane Singer of the University of Iowa, who did her Ph.D. at Missouri, has fond memories of the popular watering hole, known to regulars as the ‘Berg. She writes: “A moment of silence (probably punctuated by a belch) is in order.”
Update: The family that owns the ‘Berg has said it will rebuild the 40-year-old landmark.
